"I use Chinese medicine to provide treatments for patients who are deeply in need of nourishing support and, in effect, awaken the body’s inner wisdom to heal itself and restore balance."
Kachina L. Smith, D.Ac., L.Ac.
Dr. Kachina Smith (pronounced "Kah-chee-na") is a licensed acupuncture physician and owner of Soaring Spirit Acupuncture LLC. A D.C. metro area native, Dr. Chi received her Doctorate and Master's degrees in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). Her license is granted through the Maryland State Board of Acupuncture. She also is a certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS) by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
From a very young age, she had an insatiable passion for the field of medicine. She began as a pre-medicine student and intern prior to receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. While continuing to work in traditional Western medicine, she searched for a way to fulfill her purpose as a healer. At a summer retreat through the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment, she was lead to acupuncture.

Dr. Chi practices acupuncture because it enables her to care for each person as a whole - body, mind, and spirit. Her own life changed for the better due to treatment. Her education and professional experience in traditional Western medicine enables her to build relationships and work collaboratively with practitioners in the community. Her specialties include obstetrics, cardiology, and chronic conditions. Dr. Chi has applied first-hand experience and worked successfully with several healthcare businesses as an advisor in patient care and business management. She also works as a small business coach to new acupuncturist entrepreneurs and colleagues.

When possible, Dr. Chi likes to teach seminars and workshops on acupuncture, dysautonomia and POTS, and chronic illness. Managing her own chronic conditions for many years, she was newly diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachyardia Syndrome) in 2019. Adapting to a new way of living and practicing, she is currently redesigning the next phase of her career. However, when given the opportunity she continues to advocate for those with chronic conditions and disability.
